Doppelganger

So if you are a member of the uber cool social networking site known as Facebook (a slight bit of sarcasm, despite the fact I am a member), you may or may not know that this week is doppelganger week. What is a doppelganger, you may ask? It is a German word that technically means "a ghostly counterpart of a living person" but a not so technical definition is "look a-like, or double." Facebook has chosen the not so technical definition and is encouraging people to chose a picture of a celebrity they have been told they resemble and put it up as their profile picture. (My sincerest apologies for the Facebook techno-speak, for all of you non-Facebookers.) This jogged my memory to something funny that happened to Andy and I when we very first lived in Glenwood. We had just bought our first house, and had been living there a couple of weeks when the doorbell rings. Who in the world is ringing our doorbell (since we hardly knew anyone, and NO ONE just stops by randomly in Chicago, something we would have to get used to in Glenwood, we would learn)? It turns out to be the previous owner, Brenda. She had a box of paperwork and owners manuals that went with the house, and she wanted us to have them. So she comes inside and checks out all of the painting we have done, and is asking where we are from, just small talk. Then she says "I feel like I am talking to a couple of celebrities! You (gesturing to me) look likeNicole Kidman (me, in my mind: I love you! It is only the hair, but wow, thanks!), and you (now gesturing at Andy, who is gearing up for the Tom Cruise statement, because at the time Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were married) remind me so much of

Adam Sandler!" (Andy, now totally deflated, in his mind: Thanks a lot. Are you sure you didn't mean Tom Cruise, cause I mean, come on!) I am totally laughing, Andy is totally bummed, it was hilarious! What do you think? Tom Cruise or Adam Sandler?
