Six and a few other things...

Ava turned 6 on January 16! She informed me a couple of weeks before her birthday that she was throwing herself a party and inviting her whole kindergarten class. Being as there are 21 kids in her class, we compromised inviting 6, since she was turning 6. So we had 6 (1 couldn't make it) kindergarten girls here for a few hours last Saturday afternoon. And that was enough! We played pin the nose on Ava, decorated picture frames, frosted and decorated cupcakes, and then ate the said cupcakes and had hot cocoa and ice cream to go with it. A lovely party. I can't believe my sweet Ava is 6.

January is not only a busy birthday month, but really busy for me as well. The office where I work hosts an annual conference in January, as well as a kick off for the start of the legislative session. I get to plan both of these events, which keeps me busy. This year we had the new governor and new commissioner of education speak at our kick-off, and we had over 250 people show up (we had planned for 150). A good problem, but stressful none the less. I am looking forward to a slower February and a little time off!

The basement project is entering into its final stages of completion. As I type Andy is grouting the bathroom floor. I can hardly wait to have a second toilet up and running again. We have had some close calls!! The walls of the shower still need to be tiled, sink, vanity, and toilet installed, some paint to be touched up and then trim, and I think we might actually be finished. I wonder what that will feel like???

And lastly, it has been a tough couple of weeks for the Apple products in the O'Rourke household. My ipod touch fell out of my pocket into the bathtub when I was getting Luke out the other day, and Andy dumped a glass of water on top of his Macbook. We think God is judging us for having Macs. The ipod was toast, and Andy quickly yanked his battery and hard drive out, and then took both into the Apple store where a friend of ours works. God bless Brett Witter (our friend at the store), they replaced my ipod and Andy's laptop had no water damage and works! Whew! Lesson learned, water and electronics do not mix. Ever. And it is good to have friends that work at Apple. :)

I remember little girls' birthday parties! I think I was always ready for them to go home too!
You really have had a busy month-and construction on top of it. Ughh! I think a trip to the sunny south (maybe Missouri) is in order.
