Luke is officially in the "why, mom?" stage. We have been there for quite a while, but every now and then it seems as there are endless whys in one day. We just got back from a bike ride and in 30 minutes I lost track of the whys. Here are a few snippets from our conversation... (which was nonstop for the entire ride, I might add)
Luke: Mom, why are there potholes?
Me: Because snowplows and salt are hard on the roads during the winter.
Luke: Why do snowplows make holes in the road?
Me: When they plow the roads the blades sometimes catch on the road and make a hole.
Luke: Why do the blades catch?
Me: Ask your dad.
Luke: Mom, why are there cracks in the road?
Me: Because roads wear out sometimes and crack, and when they freeze during the winter and thaw in the spring sometimes they crack.
Luke: Mom, are there cracks in the road because there was an earthquake?
Me: No, we don't have earthquakes in Minnesota.
Luke: Why don't we have earthquakes in Minnesota?
Me: Because that is how God made Minnesota.
Luke: Did God make Minnesota a long ways away from Japan so we wouldn't have earthquakes?
Me: Something like that.
Luke: Mom, why is there dirt on the snow?
Me: Because snow has dirt in it.
Luke: Why does snow have dirt in it?
Me: Because that is how God makes snow.
Luke: How can the snow be white then?
Me: Because you can't see the dirt at first.
Luke: Why can't you see the dirt?
Me: Ask your dad.
Luke: Mom, why are my wheels wet?
Me: Because you drove through a puddle.
Luke: Why was there a puddle? Was it cause there was a pothole?
Me: Yep, there was a pothole.
Luke: Mom, why are there potholes again?
Me: We decided you were going to ask your dad.
Luke: Mom, why am I 4 and Ava is 6?
Me: Because that is how many years you have been alive.
Luke: Why can't I be older than Ava?
Me: Because Ava was born first.
Luke: How was Ava born first?
Me: Because God decided to give Ava to mommy and daddy first.
Luke: How does God give you and daddy me and Ava?
Me: Good question. You'll have to ask your dad.
Oh how I love my little boy! I have found the only way to convince him of something is to finally play the "that is how God made it" or "ask your dad" card. I am thankful for his curiosity, but man is the little guy persistant! Who knows what he will ask tomorrow?

I laughed so hard reading this! Just wait until the "God made it that way" or "ask your Dad" answers aren't enough! :)
