I often get asked "So how do you like living in the city?" To be quite honest, while yes, technically Minneapolis/St. Paul is a metropolitan area and considered a city, it really does not have a city feel to me. After living in downtown Chicago for 2 years and commuting in that traffic, Minneapolis feels like a big town. We live just 6 blocks northeast of the Minneapolis city limits, and it takes us less than 10 minutes to get downtown. If this were Chicago, well, we never could have afforded to purchase a home with a yard anywhere near downtown. We have a great yard. We have a nice neighborhood. And we live a couple of blocks from one of the most gorgeous county parks around, called Silverwood. Last weekend we took a little stroll in Silverwood, which is on a lake and has some of the most amazing oak trees. Here is a little sampling of our stroll through the park...
The deer that we saw was a nice 6 point buck. Andy was tempted to go and get his gun. And this last picture is one of the most amazing oak trees I have ever seen. It is huge, and so beautiful. I really do enjoy Minneapolis in the fall. The colors are incredible, and the weather is actually almost delightful (this fall, at least). Best of all, I am less than 20 minutes from some of the best shopping in the country. Can you say IKEA, Homegoods, and the Mall of America (and everything in between)? And did I mention there is no sales tax on clothes in Minnesota? So while I am (and always will be) a farm girl at heart, if I have to live in a city, Minneapolis is really not so bad. Now if I could just do something about the climate situation...
