A fun-filled 4th

The O'Rourkes are officially wiped out. We had a great weekend with Andy's family celebrating the 4th of July. I think we all probably gained a little weight, too, which for Luke is a good thing, the rest of us not so much. We went to the beach, had a picnic, took the boat out, grilled, went to see the fireworks, did a few fireworks of our own, made ice cream, and I think Grandpa and Grandma spent a few hours pushing a couple of small children on swings! We loved every minute. And we will sleep well tonight!
As we were watching the fireworks, we could hear a band in the distance playing the national anthem, and it really hit me how truly fortunate we are to live where we live. We are truly blessed to be able to have all of the privileges that we do.
I was also pondering the question, why fireworks? Why do we stay up late to sit outside, get eaten alive by mosquitoes, and strain our necks to look up at the sky to watch things explode? It is pretty and all, but my favorite thing is watching other people. Ava's face and reaction was the best part for me. Hope your weekend was as fun-filled as ours!
