Two weekends ago (really?!?) we went up the Causey's old neck of the woods and visited their neighbors, Mike and Ann Fleishacker. Ann has horses and has given us an open invitation to come and ride whenever. She also has a really old pony named Snoopy that the kids love. Snoopy is the perfect pony to learn how to ride, he is so old that not much bothers him and he really can't move very fast even if he wanted to (and he doesn't have any teeth left either, poor guy). Ava was so excited to go and ride horses, and could not wait to put on her pink cowboy boots. She was also really excited to model them for me.
Ava did really well, and thoroughly enjoyed herself. By the end of the morning she was turning all by herself. She was not a big fan of me trying to get Snoopy trotting, however.
Luke also insisted he could ride by himself. Didn't quite get the concept of reins, however, and Snoopy just wandered around the arena. Like I said, it is a good thing he isn't such a fast mover. Snoopy, that is. Luke is pretty quick.
Then Ava got to take little brother for a ride. They both had such a great time, and were so brave. Snoopy was glad to see us leave.
And then, joy of all joys, Luke spotted the backhoe. Mike does masonary and cement work and has lots and lots of equipment. Mike was gracious enough to let the kids get in the cab and show them all of the different levers. I think the backhoe was glad to see us leave as well.
Besides our little horseback riding adventure, we took a trip to the state fair, went to Alexandria for Labor Day weekend, and all got haircuts. Ava decided she wanted to be a bit more sophisticated and asked for a bob. Turned out pretty darn cute. Pictures to follow soon...
